Unspoken: A Review

A few friends told me that they didn't really enjoy this book, so I went into with low expectations. However, I really enjoyed it. It's different than Dee's normal books. There's not a lot of suspense, but there's plenty of character development.

Charlotte was the victim of one of a nationally known kidnapping. After her rescue, she forged a new identity for herself and refuses to speak about her ordeal. When her grandfather leaves her a fortune, she's determined to give it away. Bryce is a coins dealer who takes on part of Charlotte's inheritance of coins. When a term of the will requires they work closely, more closely than they expected, they are thrown together. Will Charlotte trust him with her past so that they can find the last kidnapper who has been on the loose for twenty years?

It took me a little while to get to like Charlotte, but I liked Bryce from the beginning. I loved his strength and patience with Charlotte's quirks. They both grew as characters and were sweet with each other.

I also liked the coins aspect. I learned a lot about coins and thought it was an interesting addition to the solving an old kidnapping storyline.

I think what confused some readers was that the back cover mentions a reporter doing a story on Charlotte, and that storyline is very minor in the book.

So, ignore the back cover and just enjoy the storyline!

Jennifer: A Review

The O'Malley series by Dee Henderson is my all-time favorite series. All-time. So, of course, I was excited to read this novella about Jennifer even though I already knew how things would turn out.
This short story gives insight into how Jennifer and Tom met and fell in love. There's no mystery, no action, no suspense. Just a sweet man meets woman and falls in love story.

I think it's a great little novella for fans of the O'Malley books. It's not a thrilling read, but having read the series so many times, I was just happy for something new with some of my favorite characters. It's definitely one to have on the shelf next to the series although I have to confess this is the only one I won't re-read.

Full Disclosure: A Review

After a five-year hiatus, Dee Henderson is back, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled to read the story of Ann and Paul, who come together while working on a serial killer case.  When Ann drops of an unsolved murder, Paul is intrigued by more than just the possible clue. Ann is friends with a former VP, spies, military elite, and even Paul’s sister-in-law. When the secrets from her past are threatened to be revealed, will Ann be able to trust Paul to protect her?

I have been looking forward to this book for months, and while I enjoyed it, I wasn’t enthralled with it like I was the O’Malley series for two reasons. First, there is a lull in the story as Paul and Ann get to know each other. After an interesting start, I was a little bored for the next 50 to 75 pages. Once the action picked up again, it felt like a familiar Dee read. Second, I liked Ann at the beginning, but once the romance started, she annoyed me. Everything was on her terms, and it was like Paul could either take it or leave it. I felt bad that he had to jump through so many hoops (and did so a  little too willingly) to win her.
Now, on the other hand, I LOVED the O’Malley twists in the book. They are some of my favorite characters of all time, and it was great to see familiar friends.  I also loved the mystery, and I was surprised at the ending. The last ¼ of the book was action packed with twists and turns.

Fans of Dee Henderson will be happy to see a new book by one of Christian suspense’s best authors. Although it wasn’t my favorite book by Dee, it was a solid book with a shocking conclusion.
