A Review: No One to Trust

 

 

I've been a fan of Lynette Eason for a while, but No One to Trust is her best book so far. The action starts on the first page and doesn't let up until the very end. Even in suspense books, there's usually a spot in the book where I can put it down to do other things...like sleep, but not in this one. I had to stay up until 3 a.m. to finish.

 

When Summer is accosted in her own home by men searching for her husband, she's thrown into a tailspin of lies, cover-ups, and the mob. Summer has to decide if her husband, who is not who he said he was, can be trusted with keeping her safe from the men who will stop at nothing to get what they want.

 

Summer's journey to justice and truth is a tangled one where the lines get blurred and the truth is hard to find, and it is fantastic. The twists and turns are continuous, some are expected and others caught me by surprise. Some books have so much action that the character development suffers, but Eason balances Summer and her husband Kyle's relationship with God and each other with the action with ease.

 

Lynette Eason is off to another winning series with this first book. Fans of Christian romantic suspense don't want to miss this one!

When a Secret Kills: A Review

For two books, readers have been wanting to meet Jillian and to find out why she ran away on graduation night, leaving her friends and her high school love with more questions than answers. Now she's back, determined to get to the bottom of what happened all those years ago. Will ex-boyfriend Colton be able to put his feelings aside when Jillian accuses his uncle of being the reason she left?

 

This is my favorite book in the series, mainly because the main storyline comes to a completion in a fast-paced, action-packed book three. I had to stay up way-too-late to finish because although Eason had been pointing to a certain bad guy for a while, there are a few twists and turns that will leave the reader on the edge of his/her seat, wanting to know what happens next.

 

I loved seeing the characters from the first two books, and I hope the author writes Blake's story soon.

 

Fans of Christian suspense will love this book, but I do recommend reading them in order.

 

When a Heart Stops: A Review

This is the second book in the Deadly Reunion series, and it picks up right where the first one left off, continuing the mystery of where Jillian has been hiding and who is trying to find her while adding a chase to find a serial killer who seems to be after Serena, Jillian's friend and the town's medical examiner. With her childhood crush back in the picture, they must work together to keep Jillian's secret and their lives.

This book has an even faster pace than the first book in the series, and although I had a clue who the killer was, I was still surprised  by a few twists at the end. I love Serena's strength and compassion, especially towards the teenage girl who tries to escape a bad home environment  Dominic is the typical overprotective hero, but the childhood connection makes their relationship a little sweeter than the typical romance in a suspenseful thriller. 

What I really liked was the continued story of Jillian and how that mystery involved the current murder investigation. I think it's a clever way to tie the books together into a series instead of just having the characters in each book connected as friends. 

Fans of suspense who have time to sit and read the book in one sitting (because you won't want to put it down) will love the latest by Lynette Eason. Be sure to read the first book first, or you'll have a lot of questions, especially as the characters from book one are mentioned with little explanation of who they are.

When the Smoke Clears: A Review

Summary from back cover: After a brush with death due to equipment failure, smokejumper Alexia Allen is ordered to take time off while the incident is under investigation. She makes a last-minute decision to recuperate at her mother's home and attend her high school reunion. Yet trouble seems to be following her, and within hours of arriving home she is confronted with murder, arson--and a handsome detective.

But the conflicts ahead are nothing compared to the ghosts of her past. As she struggles to accept and forgive her family's past, she must also decide if the secret she's been guarding for the last ten years must finally come to light.

My thoughts: This book is a thrilling adventure full of twists and turns. Most of all, I love the layers to the plot. Alexia isn't just trying to find out who is trying to kill her with the help of a cute police officer (the plot of every romantic suspense). She's also dealing with her past: an abusive father who could be the one out to get her, a brother who can't be found, a mother who kicked her out the house, and the memories of a fire that was blamed on her. The character development is a nice touch and balances out wild shootouts.

Overall, a great fast read that will leave readers wanting book two. 

A Killer Among Us by Lynette Eason

In this third installment of the Women of Justice series, Kit, a hostage negotiator and cop, is partnered with Noah to find a killer who is targeting law students. As the evidence is analyzed, Kit and Noah realize they are involved in the serial killer’s plan. Can they solve the case before they lose someone they love—perhaps each other?

This book proves again why Lynette is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. The characters are well-developed. The plot flows at a steady pace. The twists are unexpected. A hint of romance binds everything together. As always, seeds of Biblical truth are scattered throughout the book without becoming preachy.

If you enjoy a fast-paced thriller with a touch of romance, check out this series by Lynette Eason. (I would read them in order.)

Protective Custody by Lynette Eason

Carly Masterson, a deputy U.S. marshal, has been ordered to guard the judge that let a criminal go free, a criminal who murdered her mentor right after being released. Can she put away her anger to protect Nick, who she has a strange attraction to despite his role in her mentor's death?

I enjoy Lynette's books, and this one is no exception. The plot is interesting and well-developed. The characters are unique and likeable. Carly is a strong character who battles between her heart and her duty, which is a conflict a lot of women face. The idea of judges being paid off for a verdict or even threatened for a verdict is an interesting one, and I have to wonder how many cases are influenced by outside sources. What I like about the Love Inspired Suspense books is that the romance is not the main storyline. It is a nice bonus, but solving the mystery drives the story.

Don't Look Back by Lynette Eason

Jamie Cash is finally recovering from the horrible experience of being kidnapped and tortured that happened twelve years prior. Dakota has loved Jamie for a year and is close to a relationship with her when he must save her from a madman who is cunning enough to outwit even the FBI. Can Dakota save Jamie before it's too late? My thoughts: I loved this book. While I enjoyed the first one in the series, this one was even better. Eason's dialogue flowed more smoothly in this book than in the first, and the reader had more insight as to why the killer was the way he was, which wasn't there in the first book. Jamie is a beautiful picture of the resiliency of people--fighting debilitating panic and fear and eventually overcoming it and leading a normal life...as normal as a forensic anthropologist can lead. The action was well-paced and kept me up late reading it to see what would happen next. Although I figured out who the murderer was fairly quickly, there was surprise at the end that caught me off guard.

This book is an excellent book for any fans of Christian suspense.

Too Close to Home by Lynette Eason

Whenever teens go missing, especially in a small town, citizens want answers, and they want them now. Detective Connor Wolfe is searching for those answers and coming up empty. When the FBI sends in Samantha Cash, a computer forensics expert, to help find a connection between the cases, Wolfe must stay focused on the case and deal with his attraction to Samantha.


As the two team up to solve the murders, they grow closer and find that the murders are hitting closer to home with each one. When Wolfe’s daughter is taken by the murderer, they must work together and trust God to help them save Jenna, Wolfe’s stubborn teenage daughter.



My thoughts: I enjoyed this book. It’s the first one I’ve read by Lynette Eason, and I already bought the second one in the series. The characters are likeable, and the story line is intriguing. The story could have had a little more background—although I suspected who the murderer was, more background information on how this person became a murderer would have been helpful. Overall, an excellent read!
