Talon: A Review

Aspen Courtland only wants to find her twin brother, Austin, who is dead according to military reports. Determined, she takes off to where he was last seen, joined by Austin's old partner, military dog Talon. Joining her is Dane, who has his own secrets to hide.

I love Aspen and Dane. They were authentic characters developed through action-packed scene after scene. I loved Aspen's naïve belief in people and Dane's tormented past. Austin was a mystery to me, even towards the end of the book. I hope he shows up in another book (hints are there).

Talon may have been my favorite character. She was broken and unprepared to return to action, but her loyalty and protectiveness was a great tribute to the dogs serving around the world.

The action was fast from beginning to end. Kendig writes with military level precision, putting the reader right in the heart of the action and taking them for an amazing ride. Fans of military thrillers will enjoy this book as much as I did. I can't wait to read book three!

I was given this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts are my own.

Trinity: A Review

Green Beret Heath Daniels’ feels his life is over after he suffers a head injury and is discharged from the military. When he is offered a chance to train other military dogs and their handlers, he jumps at the chance to prove himself and to perhaps be allowed back in the military. Will he and his dog Trinity be able to save the captured Darci Kintz before she’s killed or Heath suffers another blackout from his brain injury?

Fans of fast paced military thrillers will love this new series by Ronie Kendig, and animal lovers will enjoy it even more. From the first page to the last, there is one adventure and twist and turn of the plot after the other.  What Kendig does well is that action scenes aren’t for entertainment purposes only—each event or catastrophe adds a layer to the development of the characters.  For example, Darci annoyed me at first, but as she endured being captured and tortured, her character developed into one that I enjoyed.

At the beginning of the book, I was a little overwhelmed with the number of characters. It was too many too soon and they had nicknames to keep up with too. Once the introductions were over and the plot began to develop, I enjoyed the characters, especially Trinity, Heath’s dog. Her loyalty and strength made her my favorite character.

Another thing I enjoyed about the book was its ending. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I was happy it wasn’t the typical happily ever after. It was realistic and sweet.

Firethrorn: A Review

In Nightshade's final ride, someone is after the team. Griffen Riddell was set up for murder and sits in jail while his team is attacked. When Kazi, a covert operative with her own set of secrets, breaks him out of prison, the two must find a way to work together to put the pieces of Nightshade back together before it's too late.

The final installment in a roller coaster ride series definitely had some loops and twists in it. The story was fast, with lots of jolts and excitement. Although I enjoyed the book, it wasn't my favorite in the series. I think the author was trying to wrap up the story lines while still keeping the fast pace, which led to some gaps and some jumps in the plot that left me shaking my head in confusion (Dante).

Overall, it was a wild read, which is what I have come to expect from Ronie Kendig's work. Fans of Christian suspense will enjoy this book, but read the books in order!

I received this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
